About

“Expect the Best”

In 1966, our Founder, Sheila C. Brittain realized that there was a need in the area for reliable, flexible childcare that was focused on educating the young child. She created an academic based program with small class sizes and low child to teacher ratios that allowed for a more personal connection between student and teachers. In the beginning, Creative Environment Day School offered many different enrollment options that were tailored to the working parent and their schedules. Over the years, the programs have changed and adapted to the modern family and their needs. This includes being open for extended hours and most holidays. The main focus of Creative Environment Day School has, and will continue to be, providing high quality education in a warm and welcoming environment for the young child just as Mrs. Brittain imagined.

The business has been family owned for over 50 years. Sheila’s granddaughter, Ashley Karkowski, was the inspiration for the toddler program to be developed. Ashley has been here since she was 18 months old. After being a student, she went on to be a camp counselor during the summer program, a teacher during the school year, and is now the director.

Our Philosophy

The mission of our school is to provide a safe and enjoyable early learning experience for your child in which they can “Expect the Best” each and every day. We aim to help each individual child learn to get along with others, solve problems, share with others, assume responsibility and play and learn within a group setting. We believe that children learn through play and we wish to give them each an authentic growing experience.

Our Curriculum

Creative Environment uses Play To Learn Preschool for their curriculum. This curriculum is centered around hands on learning and creative and meaningful play. There is a wide range of thematic units each classroom teacher is able to cater to their current classroom needs. Play to Learn encourages development in literacy and language arts, math, science, art, music and dramatic play. There are lessons for learning the alphabet, colors, shapes and more. Each classroom can cater the level of learning to their age appropriate lessons

Lesson plans are creative with each specific class in mind. We feel that the needs of each individual child can be met by offering a variety of learning activities each day. Our teachers encourage the individual growth and learning of every child within the program
